In the Performance Task for this lesson, students are expected to produce a successful event that engages members of the community from various sectors, raises awareness and understanding of a sustainability issue and effectively promotes solutions. |
| Note |
The Green Ambassadors curriculum is segmented into 10 week units, in each of which the students become experts the issues and solutions of a particular zone of practice during the first 5 weeks, then spend the next 5 weeks working in teams to create elements of a community event. These event production lessons should take place during the second 5 weeks, on a one-day-a-week basis. |
Day One: Event Overview and Roles |
| Actions |
Distribute the Earth+ Marketing Worksheet to the teams (download here). Discuss to make sure all elements are understood.
As a class discussion, fill out the left hand side of the worksheet. (You may wish to have each team fill it out first, then share out and discuss to agreement as to what should be written.)
Students fill out the event form.
- Put up the blank event form on the overhead and brainstorm the answers (download here). Use the filled out form as an example, if needed (download here).
- In discussing the question "How will you determine if the event is successful?", show students the Earth+ Event Results form, and modify it as you wish to allow you to report on the results most important to the class. At this point you should decide whether or not you want to survey some of event attendees as they leave as part of your evaluation of the results, and, if so, what questions you will ask. This discussion will help students focus on intended results of the event, which should be clear in everyone's mind before the event is planned and prepared for.
- Have each group sign up for one of the tasks on the event assignments form (download here).

Day Two: Invitations |

Assign a group to deliver to the market that has been identified
As a group you can walk the neighborhood and put the invitation on people’s doors
(For composter event) Make sure the school that will receive the composter is invited and will be coming |
Day Three: Food/Greening Event |
| Actions |
Invite a chef to come in and teach the five different recipes
Have the event group determine what food should be served
Assign a group of people to make the food

Have each group write a sign for their section
Discuss where everyone will be located
