The
Green Ambassadors is an environmental education program that empowers youth to
be agents of change in their communities and world. Through service learning,
community partnerships, and cross-cultural and global exchange, the program
fosters personal growth and leadership skills to help youth tackle the most
critical environmental issues facing our planet.
How
Green Ambassadors Operate…
Learn about pressing environmental issues, particularly our addiction to oil.
Learn about the
solutions that already exist in solving these issues. This may involve touring
to areas where such solutions exist.
Develop
important life skills such as empowerment, networking, leadership, performance,
presentation, design, technical, analytical, media, marketing, fundraising,
logistics communications and global citizenry.
Create a resource kit which provides solutions to the specific issue. This resource kit contains
a campaign outline, petition forms, a powerpoint presentation, videos created
by the students, resources, and a green curriculum [apply CARB goals within
curriculum wording]
Provide training and the resource kit to youth leaders at already established clubs throughout Los Angeles and the Bay
Area with the focus that these youth leaders will become Green Ambassadors and
create their own club. The resource
kit equips these youth leaders with lessons that will empower them to transform their
immediate community with solutions to reduce or end these problems. This green
curriculum will provide an outline of lessons for the program to be taught
anywhere in California.
Following the philosophy of “Go and See”, these youth leaders will see for
themselves the realities of the world and go beyond their local community
equipped with their resource kit to change the world.
Green Mentors
The Green Ambassadors
program also identifies and enlists Green Mentors who are of college age or
above. These Mentors work with the Green Ambassadors to support them in their
learning of environmental issues as well as solutions to these issues. Green
mentors are benefited by developing their interpersonal skills (empowerment,
networking, and enrollment), knowledge (environmental and scientific), and
ecological values (biodiversity and interconnectedness). Green Mentors assist
the Green Ambassadors to focus on specific issues where students can create social
l awareness and measurable change.
